Petit Planet Cooking & Crafting Guide
How cooking and crafting work in Petit Planet: kitchenware types, recipe categories, ingredient rules and the DIY Bench.
In this system
Petit Planet has two crafting loops, and they use different resources:
- Cooking turns crops, fish, meat and forage into dishes. It uses kitchenware such as a cooking pot, oven or blender.
- Crafting turns wood, stone, metal and other materials into furniture at a DIY Bench.
Both are recipe-based. The recipe tells you the ingredient categories and the station; the quality of the output depends on the recipe and, in the case of cooking, the dish’s quality tier.
Cooking: what the recipe actually asks for
The Final Beta recipes use broad ingredient categories, not always a specific item. A recipe might ask for “Fruit ×2” rather than “Apple ×2”. That means you can substitute whatever qualifying produce you have.
This is good for a cozy game: you are not blocked because one exact crop is out of season. It also means the “best” ingredient is usually the one with the highest quality or the one you have spare.
Kitchenware in the Final Beta
| Kitchenware | Dishes recorded | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Blender | 15 | Recipes tagged with this station |
| Cooking Pot | 63 | Recipes tagged with this station |
| Oven | 31 | Recipes tagged with this station |
The counts are from our 120-dish snapshot, so they reflect what was recorded, not necessarily the full launch recipe book.
Cooking skill levels
Cooking has its own skill track, separate from the Luca Arbor. The Final Beta table:
| Skill level | EXP to next | Unlock |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 30 | Discover simple dishes |
| 2 | 80 | 8 new simple dishes; chance for higher-quality dishes |
| 3 | 90 | 12 new simple dishes; Freestyle Cooking |
| 4 | 200 | 13 new simple dishes; chance for a Miracle Feast |
| 5 | 260 | Discover Signature Dishes |
| 6 | 300 | 11 new Signature Dishes; higher-quality chance up |
| 7 | 380 | 10 new Signature Dishes |
| 8 | 520 | Discover Banquet Dishes |
| 9 | 640 | 5 new Banquet Dishes; Miracle Feast chance up |
| 10 | — | Title: Master of the Hearth |
Cooking EXP comes from cooking, so the skill track rewards the thing you are already doing. The important breakpoints are level 3 (Freestyle Cooking), level 5 (Signature Dishes) and level 8 (Banquet Dishes).
Recipe data is incomplete on purpose. Some dishes in the Final Beta have no recorded ingredient list. We mark those as “not recorded” instead of inventing a recipe. Check the individual dish page before you plan a cooking session.
Dish categories
The recipe book is divided into categories such as:
- Everyday Dishes — the broad, practical recipes.
- Signature Dishes — stronger or character-associated dishes.
- Banquet Dishes — larger feast-style recipes.
- Secret Dishes — special or mysterious recipes.
Dish types include drinks, soups, stews, grilled dishes, desserts, main dishes, veggie dishes and stir-fries. The category matters for neighbor gift preferences: a neighbor who likes “Grilled Dish” will accept any qualifying grilled dish, not one specific recipe.
Strength and quality
Each dish has a strength value and a quality tier. Strength is the main comparison stat in the Final Beta. Higher-quality dishes tend to be stronger, but the exact curve is not published.
Use strength as a relative guide:
- A high-strength dish is a better gift or meal than a low-strength one, all else equal.
- A loved dish is still the best gift even if its strength is lower, because gift value is driven by preference first.
- Do not assume a Stellar dish is always the correct gift. Check the neighbor.
Crafting: the DIY Bench
Crafting is furniture-focused. The DIY Bench is the basic station; it is itself a furniture item in the Inventor set, obtained from an Inspo Card. Recipes use materials such as Broken Wood, wood, stone, metal and fabric.
The crafting loop is:
- Gather materials on your planet or during voyages.
- Learn or unlock the recipe (some come from Inspo Cards, story progress or neighbors).
- Craft at the DIY Bench.
- Place the furniture, use it for a Homi Decor request, or sell duplicates.
Crafting is also a way to fill furniture sets without waiting for a shop rotation. If a neighbor’s Homi Decor Wish list asks for a specific set piece, check whether it is craftable before spending Dough.
What to cook first
A practical early order:
- A cheap drink or everyday dish that uses a crop you are already growing.
- One loved dish for your most-used neighbor.
- A high-strength dish for your own buffs or for a gift you are saving.
- A recipe that uses a kitchenware station you have actually unlocked.
The dish database lets you filter by kitchenware, type and neighbor. The gift finder is faster if you already know who you are cooking for.
Sources and caveats
Recipe categories, kitchenware labels and strength values are from public community documentation of the Final Beta. The launch recipe book may add, remove or rebalance dishes. We do not present the beta recipe list as final.
